Crossbowmen UNIT

The elite, crossbow-wielding soldiers of Avalon are renown throughout the Hundred Kingdoms. As crossbows are rare and expensive in Avalon, there are very few trained crossbowmen in the kingdom. A brotherhood of sorts has arisen amongst them, for they view themselves as standing superior to “normal” archers. Though their crossbows are not capable of the ranges possible with the longbows used by Avalon’s archers, a crossbow bolt is capable of piercing even steel plate mail with ease. Often assigned to defensive duties, protecting against enemy knights and cavalry charges, because of the length of time it takes to prepare a new bolt for firing, crossbowmen are also masters of defensive positioning and maximizing the use of cover for protection from enemy fire.
